What makes an SEO-friendly slug?
- Short and containing the main keyword, usually 3 to 6 words.
- Lowercase, no accents and no special characters.
- Use hyphens to separate words, not underscores.
- Do not change a slug after the page is published and ranking, unless you add a 301 redirect.
Title and description length limits
Google usually shows about the first 60 characters of a title and 120 to 160 characters of a meta description. Anything longer is cut off with an ellipsis. Use the counter above to check quickly before you publish.
Frequently asked questions
Should a slug keep accents?
No. URLs with accents get encoded into long, ugly strings when shared and are error-prone. A plain slug is shorter and more stable.
Why remove filler words?
Words like and, of, for and with add little keyword value and lengthen the URL. Removing them keeps slugs concise, but you can switch the option off.
